Cook China Co.According to "Restaurant China, Vol. 2," the Cook China Company was in business by that name between 1893 and around 1930 in Trenton, N.J. At that time it merged with Ceramic Allied Products to become Cook Ceramic Manufacturing Company. The book dates this backstamp - and hence the date of this flip - to between around 1905 and 1930.

It is the only one I've seen by this manufacturer. Assuming like most companies they made two sizes, this would have been the smaller, measuring 4 5/8" in diameter by 3 1/4" high.

The lid was manufactured by Utilities Specialties. If you look carefully at the impression on the lid, you'll see that its name was misspelled "Specialites."

Thanks to Larry Paul for the ad for Cook (at right), dated Aug. 6, 1927.

One things that stands out about this flip isn't so much the glaze flaws as that gorgeous lime color that's very unique among these bowls!
