HALL CHINA

These heavy, vitreous china flip-tops came in two sizes: 5 5/8" x 3 5/8" and 4 5/8" x 3".
They all look identical, but some were stamped Hall and some Utilities Specialties.
Once again, we believe Utilities Specialties made the lids and ordered the bases, sometimes having them stamped with their name, sometimes not. The lids are stamped Utilities Specialties.
Click here for a page that references Hall colors. The tan is a mystery right now.

Note that this one backstamped Hall, and the blue one above backstamped Hall, have different knob shapes, so shape of knob does not distinguish those backstamped "Hall" and "Utilities Specialties."

Sand Dust? Flesh?
This one (at left) seems to have a better-quality lid and the body has crazing, leading us to believe it is older. By contrast, here's a small photo of what we think is a newer one:

With the appearance of this striped bowl with a Hall backstamp (5 5/8" x 3 5/8"), a lot of the flips that have been relegated to the unidentified page might be reevaluated as having been manufactured by Hall.

No manufacturer's mark on the lid.

This one was identified as Hall by Bill Rist, who gave us the link below:

He says it's an insert for a steam table or a rice cooker, and that Hall started making these in the 1920s. We originally had this one placed on our soda fountain page, and Bill made the observation that it could have been used as a soda fountain insert, too, since it keeps things cold just as well as hot.

4 5/8" wide x 7 5/8" deep x 7 3/4" high.

Date of manufacture: 1920s - 1940s.
The incised backstamp says:

An insert for a soda fountain, this one served up strawberry topping (see bottom photo).

These came in white and turquoise in addition to black. The heavy base was molded so that the lid could be bolted on through the top flange of the base.
